My design for a custom X-Carriage. I had a local company laser-cut the front and back plates out of 1/8″ (3mm) aluminum plate. Then I machined the top and bottom on a manual mill out of 1/8″-wall aluminum square tubing. The design puts the extruder motor under the bearing block that carries it. I feel this balances the weight of the extruder very well. Therefore, I think print defects caused by a heavy extruder is minimized. Files available on Thingiverse.
Things To Do:
- Add cable strain relief
- Improve belt attachment points
